Tokyo Prelude: Begin Your Story
Walking hand in hand backed up by centuries of history - their story begins in the heart of Tokyo, and captured by yours truly.
More Than a Photoshoot
Tokyo is full of photographers offering 1, 2, or 4-hour packages. What I offer is something different. For me, photography isn’t about counting minutes — it’s about creating moments. It’s about creating experiences you’ll remember long after you return home. Each session is designed like a story: a beginning, a journey, and a moment to hold onto.
I’ve lived in Tokyo for over 20 years, and this city has been incredibly good to me. I’d love the chance to share it with you.
What Is a Tokyo Prelude Session?
The Tokyo Prelude Session is a couples photoshoot designed like a date. Rather than hopping from one tourist landmark to another, we move through the city in a way that feels natural, romantic, and personal.
Think lantern-lit backstreets, tucked-away shrines, riverside walks, and/or the glow of neon just as evening falls. Together, we’ll wander and pause, capturing not just portraits but the in-between moments: laughter, curiosity, and intimacy.
In otherwords, a Tokyo prelude session is a mix of documentary, candid and posed portrait photography.
If it is your first visit to Tokyo, it’ll be your first chapter in Tokyo — told in photographs. See below for a few examples!
Why Choose This Over a Standard Shoot?
Most photography packages in Tokyo are built around the clock: you get an hour, two hours, or four. The focus is on quantity and efficiency.
A Tokyo Prelude Session is different. It’s not about how much time you spend in front of the camera, but about the experience of being in the city together. The photographs become a reflection of how it felt to be here, not just where you stood and what you did.
This approach allows me to tell a story:
Beginning — meeting, getting comfortable, easing into the city.
Journey — exploring side streets, pausing at shrines, walking hand-in-hand.
Finale — an intimate closing moment, whether riverside at sunset or in a quiet hidden garden.
The result? A cinematic photo essay, not just a collection of nice pictures.

Why Work With Me?
I’m not just a photographer — I’m also a planner and storyteller. Having worked with my wife, Ayako Harrison, at Elope in Japan, where we plan beautiful culture-filled elopement ceremonies, I understand how to shape experiences, not just images. I know the flow of the day, the cultural nuances, and the little details that matter.
This means I shoot with insight: anticipating moments before they happen, reading the rhythm of the day (a skill carried over from my years as a musician), and ensuring you feel comfortable and cared for at every step.
When to Book
Because these sessions are built around light and atmosphere, I recommend:
Morning light for softer tones and quieter streets.
Golden hour into twilight for that cinematic Tokyo glow.
Night-time for the neon lights of the city.
Availability is limited, especially during cherry blossom and autumn seasons, so it’s best to reserve early.
