Many of the couples I work with are visiting Japan from overseas. Some live here. Most are not used to being photographed, and many have never booked a professional photoshoot before.
You do not need to arrive with poses, a shot list, or a clear idea of what kind of session is right for you. Tell me your dates, where you will be staying, and what kind of atmosphere you are drawn to. I will help you work out whether a short Tokyo session, a longer story-led shoot, or an elopement collection makes the most sense.
Which session is right for you?
You do not need to decide before getting in touch, but these are the main ways couples work with me.
Tokyo Prelude
From ¥85,000
Best for anniversaries, honeymoons, proposals, pre-wedding portraits, or couples who simply want a relaxed photographic record of their time in Tokyo.
A two-hour Tokyo Prelude session usually works best in one compact area, with enough time to settle in, walk, talk, and create a varied set of images without overcomplicating the day.
Elopement Photography in Japan
From ¥150,000
Best for couples planning a small ceremony, city hall day, private vow exchange, or photography-led wedding story in Japan.
These sessions can be simple and low-key, or part of a more structured day involving locations, ceremony support, cultural elements, or planning through Elope in Japan.
Vow Renewals Plans
From ¥200,000
Best for couples marking a milestone, returning to Japan, renewing vows, or creating a quiet ceremony or portrait experience.
Some vow renewals are photography-led. Others involve planning, ceremony structure, venue coordination, kimono, flowers, or cultural elements through Elope in Japan.

Nervous about being photographed? That is completely normal.
Most couples I photograph are not models. Many tell me early on that they feel awkward in front of the camera.
That is not a problem.
I will guide you throughout the session with simple direction, movement, conversation, and small adjustments. You will not be left wondering what to do with your hands, where to look, or how to “act natural.”
The aim is not to perform romance for the camera. It is to give you enough structure to relax, move through the city together, and gradually forget that the session is something you need to get right.
Tokyo Prelude: a relaxed couples photoshoot in the city - Most Popular
Tokyo Prelude is my core couples photography session for visitors and residents who want thoughtful photographs in Tokyo without building the day around a full production.
It works especially well for anniversaries, honeymoons, engagement trips, pre-wedding portraits, or couples who want to remember a particular season of life in Japan.
The session usually unfolds like a walk: side streets, quiet corners, train lines, old neighbourhoods, small gestures, and the occasional burst of city energy. I will guide you when needed, but the experience should still feel like time spent together rather than a performance.

Some couples come to me for a simple photography session. Others are planning something more structured: a private vow exchange, city hall day, intimate ceremony, vow renewal, or photography-led wedding experience in Japan.
For these days, the photography is still calm and natural, but the planning may need more support. Depending on what you are hoping to do, I may work directly with you through Ross Harrison Tokyo, or alongside Elope in Japan for ceremony structure, venue coordination, cultural elements, flowers, kimono, or wider planning.

I’m Ross — a London-born musician turned photographer based in Tokyo
I have lived in Japan since 2003 and photograph couples, elopements, vow renewals, and quiet wedding stories across Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, and beyond.
Before photography, I trained and worked as a musician. That background still shapes the way I see. I pay attention to rhythm, atmosphere, timing, small changes in energy, and the moments that happen between the obvious ones.
My work is not about forcing grand gestures or turning your time in Japan into a performance. It is about helping you feel comfortable enough for something real to appear.
